- The city of Gera lies directly at the intersection of the A9 (Berlin – Munich) and A4 (Dresden – Frankfurt) motorways.
- The A4 bypasses the city for more than 10 km. Federal roads:
- The B2 crosses Gera from Hof towards Leipzig, and the B7 leads from Altenburg towards Erfurt.
- The B92 ends in the city when coming from Plauen.
